Simple pleasures indeed
A little Christmas magic must have crept down the studio chimney as 4ft Pimp toiled away on cold December nights recording their new EP, because the result was something very special.
The songs Great Aunt Anaconda, No Ball Games and Shotgun Paradise burst like a firework scattering thousands of colours across the night sky. The record represents a huge step forward for a band who should now have finally shaken off laboured comparisons with The Darkness.
On the record much of 4ft Pimp's self parody has gone, although a boundless energy and wicked sense of fun remains.
The band have blossomed into an innovative juggernaut of a heavy rock band who evoke thoughts of Frank Zappa and Deep Purple while keeping it fresh with a cheeky twist.
Layer upon Layer of backing vocals, intelligent use of synthesisers and triumphant guitars merge with Greg Kiss's versatile vocals. Their marauding song structure leaves you on edge as the pimps twist and turn, flipping between instruments to deliver a fist pumping sonic experience.
Simple Pleasures, Drastic Measures is a huge record, gift-wrapped with top notch production values.
The 4ft Pimp Boys have got what they wanted for Christmas - and more.
